Civil Aviation Administration Releases Statistical Report on Civil Unmanned Aircraft Operator and Cloud System Data (2023)

A few days ago, the Civil Aviation Administration released the "Civil Unmanned Aircraft Operator and Cloud System Data Statistics Report (2023)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The "Report" shows that my country's civil unmanned aircraft (hereinafter referred to as "drones") industry is booming, and the scale of drone operators continues to grow. As of the end of 2023, a total of 194400 people have drone operator licenses. An increase of 56000 people last year. At the same time, the report presents the current development and future trend of UAV operation in the industry through statistical analysis of UAV cloud system operation data, which will provide reference for all participants in the industry to grasp the demand and formulate strategies.

The Report shows that by the end of 2023, the number of multi-rotor UAV operator licenses will dominate among all models, accounting for 92.74 per cent (based on license endorsement level statistics, one person may endorse multiple levels). Judging from the age structure, the age distribution of UAV operators is wide, covering people born from 1947 to 2007. In terms of regional distribution, the number of drone operator licenses issued in East China and Central South China in 2023 is leading, and drone applications are relatively active.

By the end of 2023, there were 95 UAV operator license examination points nationwide, of which 30 were newly added in 2023, an increase of 31.5 over the previous year, further facilitating the examination of administrative counterparts, increasing the supply of examination resources and optimizing the quality of examination services. The Report makes a statistical analysis of the data of the UAV operator examination system according to the number of examinations, the number of passes, the passing rate and the average score. Among the models, the passing rate of the multi-rotor UAV operator license examination is relatively high, and the passing rates of the theoretical examination and the practical examination are 84.70 and 97.26 respectively, reflecting the relative maturity of the model in training and examination.

In terms of operating data of the drone cloud exchange system, as of the end of 2023, a total of Youyun, Youkai, Polar Flying Cloud, Tuo Attack Cloud, Zhongke Skynet, All Flying Cloud and U-FSC UAV cloud systems have joined the exchange system, with a total of about 245000 UAVs participating in the data sharing of the exchange system throughout the year. In 2023, the number of valid data provided by each cloud system on the exchange system was 2.967 billion, which translates into 4.1205 million hours of flight time, an increase of 2.1809 million hours over the previous year. Among them, multi-rotor drones accounted for the absolute mainstream, accounting for 99.7 per cent of the total operation; from the point of view of operation and management classification, plant protection drones had the largest number of operations, accounting for 98.27 per cent of the total, an increase of nearly 8 percentage points over the previous year, indicating a strong demand for drones in the field of agricultural plant protection.

The data of the exchange system show that most unmanned aerial vehicles have the remarkable characteristics of low altitude and low speed. The number of flight hours of unmanned aerial vehicles with an operating height of no more than 15 meters accounts for 98.78, the proportion of unmanned aerial vehicles with an operating height of no more than 120 meters accounts for 99.89, and the proportion of unmanned aerial vehicles with an operating speed of no more than 10 meters per second accounts for 96.7. Almost all unmanned aerial vehicles participating in data exchange in 2023 have an operating speed of less than 15 meters per second, in line with the current UAV is mainly used for aerial photography, surveillance and agriculture and other tasks. From the perspective of operating time, my country's drones are currently operating mainly in the daytime. The highest peak of drone operation in 2023 appears in the morning, and the peak time period is 9 am to 11 am Beijing time; the peak time period in the afternoon is Beijing time. From 16:00 to 18:00.

The relevant person in charge of the Flight Standards Department of the Civil Aviation Administration said that with the growth of the drone operator team, the deepening of technology applications and the improvement of management policies, the drone industry will continue to be an important part of the low-altitude economy, showing strong development. Potential and broad application prospects. In the next step, we will continue to track and analyze the development needs of the UAV industry, further improve the statistical content and data quality, and provide more valuable information reference for the industry and society.

Drones: from consumer to professional

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a kind of aircraft without direct human control, which can fly through autonomous control or remote control. With the continuous development of technology, unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming more and more popular, and the application scenarios are becoming more and more extensive. According to different application scenarios and functional requirements, there are different types of UAVs. The following are the main types of drones:

Remote Sensing UAV: "Elf" Great Use

In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicle platforms carrying photographic equipment and other mission payloads, remotely controlled by pilots or autonomously controlled by flight control systems, have played an increasingly important role in remote sensing applications such as surveying and mapping, disaster reduction and emergency response, and have become new members of the remote sensing family. UAVs are known as the "elves" of the remote sensing family because of their small maneuverability, low-altitude flight, high spatial and temporal resolution, and diverse and flexible payload configurations ". However, this "elf" is of great use!

Focus on consumer drones on the battlefield

Consumer unmanned aerial vehicles are usually small in size, flexible in flight mode, and extremely difficult to use photoelectric detection. The power device usually uses electric motors with extremely small noise and is difficult to find through acoustic detection. The fuselage is mostly made of non-conductor materials, and the flight speed is slow and the flight altitude is low, making it difficult for radar to find. The communication control link usually uses civil signals, with low signal power, insignificant signal characteristics and difficult to find by long-distance radio frequency monitoring.

Experts predict that the next 10 to 20 years will be the golden period for the development of drones. There is huge room for growth in applications in emergency response, logistics, plant protection, inspection, disaster prevention and mitigation, geological meteorology and other industries. In this colorful era, the ever-rising drone technology will break through the existing boundaries and move towards a smarter, more remote, and more environmentally friendly direction, bringing a broader development space for human society.
